The 4 CORNERS workshop provides students with an engaging and interactive experience through DJ’ing that highlights the establishment, resilience, and overall importance of Hip-Hop culture. The term “4 Corners” comes from the four elements of Hip-Hop which include: DJing, MC’ing, Breaking, and Graffiti. DJing is the artistic handling of beats and music. MC’ing is putting spoken-word poetry to a beat. Breaking is Hip-Hop’s dance form. Graffiti is the painting and art form of the culture.
Students will practice traditional techniques such as mixing, and scratching using historical and present-day music. The workshop showcases the resilience that was required for Hip-Hop to be conceived. It demonstrates how people came together to fight for the fairness and social justice that modern-day students currently enjoy.
