The numeracy with a spin workshop offers an immersive experience for students to strengthen their mathematical abilities and processes as well as their social emotional learning skills (SEL) through DJ’ing. Working Individually and in pairs, students engage in real-world problem-solving scenarios using the provided DJ equipment and software. The workshop utilizes knowledge of in-class math lessons while adding exciting tools and strategies that make the experience come to life. Math lessons such as ratios, rounding, percentages, fractions, and more all take on new meaning while students learn the essential skills to mix and scratch music. Additionally, effective communication skills are practiced as students collaborate with peers and share their work with the class.
